Relationship between %HRmax, %HRReserve, %V[O.sub.2max], and %V[O.sub.2] Reserve in elite cyclists
Article Abstract:
The relations between %HRmax, %HRR, %V[O.sub.2max] and %V[O.sub.2]R in elite cyclists are evaluated to check whether the intensity scale recommended by ACSM in its 1998 position stand is also applicable to this specific population. Prediction of %HRR by %V[O.sub.2]R is found to be better than by %V[O.sub.2max] thus suggesting that cyclists should use %HRR in relation to %V[O.sub.2]R rather than in relation to %V[O.sub.2max].

Hyponatremia in ultradistance triathletes
Article Abstract:
Studies have found that fluid overload is the primary cause of hyponatremia, or water-electrolyte imbalances, in athletes performing in triathlons. Although hyponatremia is a common finding in ultradistance athletes, it is typically asymptomatic and therefore requires in-depth research for causal factors. Mild hyponatremia can also result from variable changes in body weight.
